The Australian Terrier is a sturdy and healthy dog, but like all dogs they too have a few health problems:

Excercise Needs for the Australian Terrier
- The Australian Terrier is a high energy dog and regular excercise is necessary to avoid it becoing bored and unhappy as this will lead to undesirable behaviour.
- Approximately 60 minutes of walk or play is necessary to keep the Australian Terrier happy and avoid boredom
- When taking for walks or for excercise they should never be unleashed, as their desire to hunt is very strong and will not resist chasing rabbits, rodents, etc straying so far from home that they may not be able to make it back home.
- If he plays indoors or in the yard then the yard needs to be fenced.
- If he plays in the yard or Garden, ensure that he is supervised as they have a tendency to dig holes eveywhere unless trained an supervised!.
- Get your Australian Terrier involved in regular obedience classes at the intermediate or advanced level, or in ongoing agility classes (an obstacle course for dogs). Or join an earth dog club, where terriers are encouraged to dig and tunnel after small critters (which are secured in a sturdy cage so they can't be harmed).
